# Xano

> One platform to build, run and govern AI-built software. Build your backend in TypeScript with AI: your coding agent writes it with the Xano SDK, you run it on the Xano Engine on your machine, then deploy it to Xano, where one set of rules governs every release. Database, APIs, environments, releases, logs and a picture of what got built, as one system.

Xano covers the full AI software development lifecycle (AI-SDLC) on a stack engineers recognize (PostgreSQL, Redis, Kubernetes, Docker microservices, GitHub and GitLab CLI, autogenerated OpenAPI docs):

- **Manage & govern**: one set of rules for the whole team (a workspace ruleset) sets which AI skills, tests, dependencies, auth patterns, environments, and data residency apply. Defined once and enforced for every person and AI agent.
- **Build, run & test**: your coding agent (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Copilot, or your own) writes the backend in TypeScript with the Xano SDK (`npx @xano/sdk init`), you run it on the Xano Engine on your machine (a single binary with Postgres built in, no account, no network), then deploy it to Xano. The Xano Developer MCP (`npx -y @xano/developer-mcp`) and XanoScript with the `xano` CLI cover existing workspaces. Verify whole business workflows with workflow tests from the CLI or UI. Review in an ephemeral sandbox and promote.
- **Understand**: one shared picture of what got built, drawn from the software that's actually running: the whole team reads and reviews what the agent built in the Xano editor (Canvas View, Function Stack), without reading code.
- **Deploy**: every release is an immutable, version-controlled deploy object; your cloud or ours, any region, instant rollback.
- **Observe**: request history, tracing, and performance insights, down to the exact function that failed.

Frontend-agnostic: connect React, Next.js, mobile, Lovable, Bolt, WeWeb, FlutterFlow, Webflow, Bubble, or any front end, or host static files on Xano.

- **Workspace rules (workspace ruleset)**: the one set of rules a team defines once per workspace - AI skills, tests, dependencies, auth patterns, environments, data residency - and that is enforced for every person and AI agent.
- **Xano SDK**: the TypeScript SDK (`@xano/sdk`, MIT) your coding agent writes the backend with: tables, APIs, tasks, MCP servers and agents as TypeScript objects in your repo.
- **Xano Engine**: a single binary with Postgres built in that runs your backend on your machine, with no account and no network.
- **Workspace**: the live system: database, logic, and APIs, readable in the Xano editor or as XanoScript.
- **XanoScript**: the code form of everything in a workspace. Edit it locally and sync it with `xano` CLI push/pull, or let an agent write it through the Developer MCP.
- **Developer MCP**: the MCP server (`npx -y @xano/developer-mcp`) that gives coding agents XanoScript docs and validation tools so they build to Xano's rules.
- **Logic**: APIs, custom functions, background tasks, triggers, and middleware.
- **Workflow test**: a test that verifies a whole business workflow end to end, run from the CLI or UI.
- **Sandbox**: a separate database environment for reviewing changes before promoting them.
- **Ephemeral tenant**: a short-lived, auto-expiring tenant for previews, CI, and parallel testing.
- **Release**: an immutable, version-controlled deploy object that can be rolled back instantly.
- **Tenant**: an isolated deployment of a workspace, per client or region, managed in Tenant Center.
- **MCP Builder**: builds hosted MCP servers that run under the workspace ruleset, authenticated, permissioned, and observable.
- **Agents**: AI agents that run in Xano, powered by a model of your choice.
