Postgres you can see, and leave with.

A standard PostgreSQL database under everything you build. Visible schema, versioned changes, and a documented way out.

How AI code governance works

The bed the whole train runs on

Managed PostgreSQL under every API, task and agent

Tables, APIs, realtime channels, tasks and agents all ride on one standard database: readable, governed, and yours to take with you.

  1. 01 · Standard

    Standard Postgres.

Your data lives in PostgreSQL, not a proprietary store. It exports directly; at volume, we help you move it. The Xano Engine has Postgres built in, so the same database runs on your laptop.

  2. 02 · Readable

    Schema you can read.

The schema is visible and versioned in the same workspace as the logic that uses it, readable by the engineer who inherits it.

  3. 03 · Governed

    Governed changes.

Draft changes with revertible history; agents and engineers alike work inside your workspace rules, with every change attributable.

Write with AI · Run locally · Deploy to Xano

Tables in TypeScript, on Postgres from the first run

Your coding agent writes the schema with the Xano SDK, you run it on the Xano Engine with Postgres built in, then deploy the same schema to Xano.

  1. 01 · Write with AI

Your coding agent writes the tables.

Tables are TypeScript objects in your repo, written with the Xano SDK. Field types and table references are type-checked, and the SDK always compiles to a valid workspace.

  2. 02 · Run locally

    Postgres runs on your machine.

The Xano Engine is a single binary with Postgres built in. npm run xano:deploy creates the tables and runs your APIs against them, with no account and no network.

  3. 03 · Deploy to Xano

    The same schema goes live.

One command deploys the same code to managed PostgreSQL on Xano. Shared schema changes need an explicit flag at promotion, so nobody changes production tables by accident.

By plan

What the Xano database includes

The same PostgreSQL on every plan. Limits and extras by plan, from the full plan comparison.

Records and storage

Up to 100,000 records and 1 GB of database storage on the Free plan; unlimited records and 10 GB on Essential, 25 GB on Pro.

Direct database access

Connect directly to Xano’s PostgreSQL database from your own tools on Essential plans and above.

Schema versioning

Table schemas, API groups, endpoints, functions and tasks are versioned, so a mistake rolls back. 10 versions on Essential, 20 on Pro, unlimited on Custom.

Database triggers

Run logic when database events occur, written in TypeScript like the rest of your backend. Essential plans and above.

Scale and caching

Redis data caching on Pro and Custom plans. Horizontal database scaling across regions on Custom plans, for heavy query loads.

Questions

The Xano database

Is Xano’s database PostgreSQL?

Yes. Every Xano workspace stores its data in a standard PostgreSQL database, not a proprietary store. Tables, APIs, realtime channels, background tasks and AI agents all read and write the same Postgres, and the schema is visible and versioned next to the logic that uses it. Why Xano uses PostgreSQL.

Can I export my data?

Yes. Your data lives in standard Postgres and exports directly; at volume, we help you move it. It is always exportable, and your logic, schema and tests stay readable. The security page covers exportability in detail.

Can I connect directly with SQL?

Yes, on Essential plans and above. Direct database access lets you connect to your workspace’s PostgreSQL database from your own tools. Plan details are in the full comparison.

Does the database run locally on the Xano Engine?

Yes. The Xano Engine is a single binary with Postgres built in, so your tables run on your machine with no account and no network. The engine version is pinned in package.json, and one command deploys the same code to Xano. How the Xano Engine runs locally.

How many records can I store?

Up to 100,000 records on the Free plan, and unlimited records on Essential, Pro and Custom plans. Records are rows in a database table and do not include binary media like images and files, which have their own storage. Current limits are on the pricing page.
